My Faith

Essential to me and foundational to my writing is Jesus. Let me share my personal confession of faith in Him:

I believe that Jesus is Lord, having Creator’s rights to me in every way. After God made man and woman, He called His creation very good. And His rule over His creation is excellent, pure, righteous, and rich in love.

Yet, I was born disbelieving the truth of His good rule and His treasuring of me—wishing instead to live my own way. I, with this sin, fall short of His glory. I merited His holy wrath of death to eternal damnation because there is and can be but one God.

Into my lost and needy state of sin, impending wrath, and fallenness entered Jesus. In great grace, the perfect Son of God came to earth as man to bear my sin in His body on the cross. Through the cross, He extended new life to me that I might live in peace before Him.

Through choosing Him as my Lord and Savior, I have been forgiven of my transgressions, justified before His holy court such that His wrath is satisfied, and eternally enlivened as a welcomed child of the one true God.

There is now no more condemnation for my sins. As Jesus said on the cross: “It is finished” (John 19:30)—that is, Jesus paid for my sins in full.

I have the sure hope that after traversing my days on this earth, I will arrive before Him fully glorified—sinless by His grace. Yet even now, God sees me with complete and perfect righteousness because Jesus’ merit is credited to my account through faith. I can approach God with assurance of access because the eternal basis for my right standing before God is not me and my works—but Jesus and His.

I could never earn what I have received from the God who has set His love upon me. So, I take hold of Him who has taken hold of me: the God who so loved the world as to give us His Son that whoever believes in Him does not die but has eternal life (see Jn. 3:16-18; cf. 1 Cor. 15:3-5).

I confess my trust in the God-Man who died that I could live.
